Dear Friends,
Last night, I was sitting in my house in Port-au-Prince after a very frustrating day of waiting at the local airport. While I was enjoying a nice cold glass of water, I was aware that our friends in Port Salut have no water. They are in a very desperate situation.
We had arranged transportation to Port Salut first thing yesterday, but our arrangements fell through as resources were re-allocated in the relief efforts. We spent the entire day on details of relief supplies and attempting to get to Port Salut. There is no access by car to Port Salut and the only way in at this time is by air or boat. Thank God for great friends with connections. We were able to contact a helicopter pilot that took us to Port Salut this morning at 5 am.
We landed in Port Salut at our Community Center with 1,000 lbs of supplies. Great partners including Love A Child, Lifechurch, Hands and Feet, Calvary Church, Ken Michele, special friends, and so many others are all back home working on our behalf. How grateful are we. Thank you, thank you.
We want to send all of you who have donated to this effort a very special “THANK YOU!” We need you now more than ever. While I never want to sensationalize anything, we are in a very desperate situation. People in Port Salut and other regions of the south are completely cut off from any relief efforts. It is estimated that more than 60% of the people lost their homes and almost all the animals are dead. Many people are living in an abandoned orphanage trying to survive on what little they have to share. The biggest issue facing us now is lack of water.
We need your help! We need funds and not donated items. It is difficult for us to bring those items to Haiti. Port au Prince is functioning very well, and we can purchase materials there. To date we have already purchased tens of thousands of dollars in water solutions, lumber, metal roofing and food supplies. This is just a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed. The immediate need is widespread, and beyond that it will take months to get people back on their feet.
If you have not already, will you consider donating now to our relief and rebuilding efforts?
All gifts will be matched up to $100,000
Please pray for us as we work to bring life back to the people of Port Salut and the southern region.
Working as one,
Joan Conn
P.S. We will continue to post pictures and updates to our Facebook page here. Please do consider forwarding this request to anyone you know who might be interested in helping.
