Natacha Desir is one of our amazing Child Advocates in Haiti.  She not only advocates for children in restavek, but she also leads an afterschool girls’ group.  Natacha has a big heart for children in restavek and for her country. Get to know Natacha Desir!

What do you like most about being a Child Advocate?

The way the kids love me, and the difference I make in their lives. I love seeing how they change when they start school for the first time and how confident they become.

What is one new thing you have learned through your job?

I have learned that change is possible.

What do you like most about your country (Haiti)?

I love how kind Haitian people are – even if people don’t really know you, they will be kind with you.

What is one thing people might not know about Haiti?

We are courageous and resilient (if people know our history, they might already realize this).

What do you wish most for Haiti?

Peace.

What do you wish most for children living in restavek?

Freedom.

What most motivates you in your job?

I see what I am accomplishing for my country through Restavek Freedom and how I am making a change.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

I wanted to a lawyer.

What is one of your favorite things to do when you’re not working?

I love listening to music.

What is your favorite song?

My favorite song is Beni-Yo by Emeline Michel.

If you could go anywhere in the world for a week, where would it be?

I would love to go to India.

What is one thing you’d like to accomplish in your life?

There are so many things I’d like to accomplish in my life…one of them being to climb Mt. Everest!
