At 8:29 am (ET) on Saturday, August 14, a 7.2 earthquake struck western Haiti. Areas like Les Cayes, Jeremie and Les Anglais were especially hard hit. We have heard reports and seen images of chaos, building collapse and some loss of life. Thankfully, all of Restavek Freedom’s staff seems to be safe and accounted for. Please pray for the people of Haiti and our staff as they assess the situation and check on the children in our programs.
Restavek Freedom has been on the ground in Haiti for 20 years, offering relief following the 2010 earthquake and Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Our network of Haitian staff includes a skilled construction team, social workers, and others experienced in disaster relief. Thankfully, Restavek Freedom staff and offices are strategically located throughout Haiti to address the damages and needs of the areas affected by Saturday’s earthquake.
Immediately, we are preparing to send construction materials and hundreds of heavy duty tarps while assessing damage and preparing teams to get the work done. The people of Haiti need your prayers and support. Would you please help? 100% of donations will be sent to Haiti and the people who need it most.
