In order to end child slavery in Haiti, we must change the behaviors of the families who send their children into restavek. Many of these families don’t believe they have a choice because it is so hard to provide the food and resources their family needs. It has become even harder in the south of Haiti because Hurricane Matthew destroyed more than 50% of the food trees in the area, which supplied food and income to these families.

However, we can restore the hope of a future to thousands of children in Haiti by restoring their food and crop supplies through planting trees.

By giving people the ability to plant trees, you can transform a family not just in the short term but in the long-term. You will allow families to stay together, eat, and make a living as well. This will go a long way towards ending the restavek system and ensuring healthy families and communities are able to support themselves.
