“I met Joan, director and cofounder of restavèk freedom, and her daughter, Desha, 12 years ago in Haiti. Over 300,000 children are enslaved now in Haiti through a system called restavèk. This is child slavery. I’ve always believed in standing up for innocence and protecting it. Whether it be, a child, an animal, a forest. These guys devote their lives to fighting to end child slavery in Haiti. A tree from my studio will be auctioned to help support their mission. Filbert’s artistic journey has taken her from studios in Santa Fe, the Hamptons, New York City, and Florida, to her current home in South Carolina. With a BFA from Santa Fe University of Art and Design, her vibrant, abstract work reflects life, travel, and the world’s most pressing social issues. Her pieces, known for thick oil textures and a mosaic-like quality, have been featured in Vanity Fair, Hamptons Magazine, and Charleston Style and Design.
Notable collectors of her art include Robin Williams, Tommy Hilfiger, Christie Brinkley, and Huey Lewis, as well as numerous established collectors and private institutions. Her heavy use of thick oil paint gives her artwork a sculptural quality, some say even mosaic.
Filbert’s art is represented by Miller Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina, and Aspen Luxe in Aspen, Colorado. She also maintains an active presence on social media platforms, including Instagram, where she shares her creative process and engages with her audience.

Description: The Sound of Silence, created using layered oil paints embodying a mosaic feel, gives voice to the hundreds of thousands of Haitian children whose voices are often oppressed and silenced.
