There are many children in Haiti that suffer from disabilities; Saphira is one of those children. Previously I wrote this about her experience:
Saphira has been in the special school for over a year now. It did not take long to see the results. At this new school Saphira consistently got good grades, so much so that her aunt could not believe it! When I met with her mid-year, the improvement in her speech was very obvious.
She speaks easily, without any difficulty. In our last meeting of the school year, I was astonished! If you did not know it before, you would never have imagined that she had a language problem. In fact, at our last interview, it looked like she was the one interviewing me; she asked me so many questions and is no longer shy at all.
My hope is that Haiti continues to build these types of schools. Allowing all children the opportunity to succeed in school is so important. When Saphira called me on the phone for the very first time, I was overjoyed to be talking to her by telephone.
I’m very humbled to have played a part in the life of this young girl who now can smile about her future!
